This was a 'Reading Tradition' book exchange from a friend. I have not read many books in the romance genre and seeing the high rating, I was interested in reading it.

Ruby Campbell, who is a nanny joins the family of Barclay Rothchester, to care for his two daughters, who have lost their mother. Barclay's wife Claire died two years ago and he has strict rules to bring up his daughters. He is afraid of loving and having heartbreak once again and tries to keep himself busy with his work.

Ruby is in love with the kids and breaks every rule possible that is laid by Barclay to keep the girls happy. Eventually, fate has it and both Ruby and Barclay fall in love.

The book stuck to its genre of romance and it was a pure joy to read. There was some typical stubborn behavior by Ruby, which I was totally expecting, but what I didn't expect were the heartbreaking situations. When Ruby decides to leave for another assignment, everyone is heartbroken and the author has penned the feelings so well that it left me in tears. But as with any other romance novel, the story had a happy ending!

Favorite lines from the book:

  • Don't let what's happened to you make you hard. don't let the pain make you hate. Don't let the bitterness of what happened to you steal your sweetness.

  • You can't go through life being afraid of love. Love is the greatest emotion there is.
